Under different types of lighting, the aurora borealis crystal made famous by Swarovksi in 1955 shiens different colours. Under direct lighting, it shines a rose gold, pinkish type of shade. Under diffused lighting, it shines a sparkling blue. I tried to capture this effect by shooting the clip on earrings under the two types of lighting, as can be seen from the photos.
Not much information is available on KAHL jewelry, but I did find that these high-quality vintage jewelry was manufactured by JF Kahl Inc. Going along with the trends that Coro and Trifari set when it comes to these aurora borealis rhintestone beauty, Kahl also produced a line of these rainbow pieces, all in high and long lasting quality. Nowadays, almost anything irridescent is described as Aurora Borealis crystal. You can only get the good quality of the Swarovski rhinestone through these vintage pieces.
The clip on earrings are fairly worn, but I have sanitized them back for the stones to emit their original shine. The backing are still a bit tarnished however, and the sign KAHL can clearly be seen.
One of the earrings also has the centre stone replaced by a more modern AB crystal, not the same make as the Swarovski originals. Please refer to the photos to see where it has been replaced. I did a lot of macro shots so that they can clearly be seen. Price reflects restoration.
This piece was bought from an estate sale in Ontario. The collector had a lot of stunning vintage pieces, and was an avid fan of AB crystal.
